ABOUT ZAKS LEGACY

Zaks legacy is a fostering and adoption rescue run by Anita and Jacky. It is a foreign dog rescue with the aim of bringing dogs over primarily from Romania. People often ask why foreign dogs and the answer is simply that these dogs would almost certainly die without rescuers, fosterers and adopters in the UK.
Some years ago, Anita’s faithful GSD named Zak died suddenly from a splenic tumour. He had been a blood donor for many years and saved many other dogs lives during his life. Anita was devastated, but also keen that his life should be honoured. She decided to retire from paid work and started fostering abused foreign street dogs. Dogs continue to be saved in his name and Anita has successfully homed over 90 dogs.
Jacky adopted a dog from Anita and was so inspired by her fostering, that she decided this was something she would love to do. Jacky reduced her working hours and started working under Anita in order to learn everything she needed to know about good fostering and adoption. Jacky has now successfully homed over 30 dogs.
So that’s how Zaks legacy started and we set up our own fostering and adoption service because we felt we had much to offer, Anita has a special interest in training and behaviour and Jacky is a qualified Vet Nurse, so between us we have a wide range of skills.
We are happy to foster and re-home for established charities and have also just started bringing our own dogs over, but we only take adult dogs, not puppies. We like to home our dogs fairly locally so that we can provide full support, but with Anita in South Bucks and Jacky in Herts, we cover a fairly wide area. We also like our dogs to go for visits to potential adopters before adoption.
We both love fostering and feel privileged to meet some wonderful dogs and help them on their journey to a happy life. We also get to meet some lovely adopters and help to bring joy into their lives. We are very mindful that it is the rescuers in these countries who deserve the real credit because they save the dogs and keep going under tremendous pressure and heartache. It is also lovely for them to see where their dogs end up!
Nadja was rescued from the streets of Romania and had most likely been thrown out because she was no longer wanted. Thankfully, she was rescued and came to Jacky. From there, she was adopted by Val and Graham who proved to be a perfect match!
We are not a registered charity, but we are 100% voluntary and every penny goes to help the dogs we foster.
