Back in the day, I was a regular visitor to Val and Grahams house and would always try to get out of doing the washing up after eating. Try as I might, under Grahams watchful eye, there was no chance in that happening. It’s quite scary as I regularly catch myself doing the same with my own children and their friends now. Graham often joined us boys when we played 5 a side football or badminton at the leisure centre and my god did he run circles round us. We’d leave the centre red faced and feeling pretty rubbish about ourselves, and it was at this point Karl would remind us that Graham used to be a physical training officer in the navy and even with all of us vs Graham, he’d still bloody win! As a kid there were few better feelings than discovering that your mate’s home was only a few doors down from yours. One that trumped this however, was the realisation his parents were very much family.

My Grandpa was an amazing person. I was so lucky to have him in my life. He will live on through the many stories we all have of his mischievous and loving ways.

My Grandpa was the kindest and most gentle man. He had a great sense of honour and always brought laughter to our family gatherings. While the thought of loosing him still deeply hurts, I am honoured to have spent the last 25 years of my life with such a wonderful Grandpa. He always reminded me to never take life too seriously, have fun and enjoy what you do. A simple message which is sometimes unfortunately overlooked in our busy lives. I am privileged to have so many happy memories of times spent together, throughout my childhood; ones which I will forever treasure. From measuring our height in the Wendy House, to taking me and my brother swimming at 7am on weekend, to playing Ukers together - bringing joy and spending quality family time was all that was important to my Grandpa. I will miss my Grandpa deeply but I know he will live on in these happy memories 🫶🏻 I am forever grateful to have had you as my Grandpa. You mean more to me than words could ever say. I love you so much and always will x
